Somewhere around 16 years ago, I decided a career change from a supervisor in the world of telecoms was called for and, at my time of life, working with dogs was my dream job……so thats what i did!
Here we are many years on and Wagtails has gone from strength to strength and I have had the absolute pleasure to work with some of the loveliest dogs you could wish to meet. Of course, time sadly moves much faster for our beloved four legged friends and I still remember fondly the ones that are no longer with us.
I am from a dog loving family, and from a very young age I remember Peter, our lovable “Heinz 57” variety pooch, and all the way back to when my two sons were young, when we had Floyd, an English Setter and a few years later, our beautiful Standard Schnauzer, Dusty. Today, we have two rescue dogs we have been able to give their forever home, and they are Bruno, our very busy Jack Russell, and Rio, our friendly boxer…..we love them dearly.
So, I embarked firstly on a dog walking service with occasional boarding whilst i under took my dog grooming training at Merrist Wood College in Guildford, and upon completion there Wagtails was born.
Today, we have a diary full of lovely dogs, some a little easier than others on the grooming table, but we genuinely love them all the same. And, in the last two years, my son Louis has joined the business full time and I am so proud of the progress he has made, he truly is so natural with dogs, its wonderful for me to see, and, of course, get the much needed help our busy grooming salon needed.
My catch phrase is “Free TLC With Every Groom” and I can promise you, that is administered with every pooch and every visit, our passion is your dog, and we are honoured to be trusted with your very loved member of the family.

I couldn’t be prouder of my Mum and how she has built Wagtails into a professional and dedicated groomers that is trusted by so many. I was working in retail sales, but helping in the business at weekends. Though we have had dogs for as long as I can remember, I was a little taken a back just how much i enjoyed working with different dogs and the satisfaction of knowing they have had a positive experience during their brief stay with Wagtails.
At the beginning of 2013, Mum decided she was getting to busy and would possibly have to refuse new dogs experiencing the Wagtails groom and may even have to let go a few of our newer clients. This was a tough decision to have to make, and one that caused us all to have re think about Wagtails. Once we had told ourselves that saying no to any dog was just not in our nature, the decision was made for me to join full time. I seem to have a natural affinity to working with dogs who maybe need a little more attention and care than others and two years on, it has proved to be the best decision I have ever made.
Mum has taught me so much in a short space of time, but as well as on the job training, she also arranged for me to spend 6 weeks working with Colin Taylor. For those of you who don’t know Colin, he is based in London and is simply one of the most respected dog groomers around the world. Dog groomers learn from dog grooming instructors, dog grooming instructors learn from Colin! It was an incredible experience that I won’t ever forget and has taught me so much.
Of course two years full time in the business is an extremely short time, but I have long term plans and they include being fully qualified to city and guilds standard in dog grooming, which includes emergency first aid to dogs and dealing with aggressive behaviour amongst many other aspects of the trade.
I look forward to seeing many of you in our fantastic new salon soon and please keep an eye on our news section of the web site for advice and tips on looking after your dog.
